The rapidly rising composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist corto.alto will make his debut in Finland next spring. Effortlessly blending hip hop, soul, and funk, the Scottish artist will perform at Vaunusali in Helsinki's Korjaamo on Wednesday, April 22. Having built a strong and dedicated following across the UK, Europe, and the US, corto.alto is known for his independent approach to music-making. His songs reflect not only his roots in Glasgow's vibrant and growing music scene, but also his wide-ranging influences drawn from club and electronic music, as well as a deep love for soul, funk, and hip hop. The artist, recently signed to the renowned Ninja Tune label, released his latest track APRIL in October, featuring French-Senegalese singer-songwriter anaiis. The track has been described as one of corto.alto's most powerful collaborations to date.
The man behind the corto.alto moniker, Liam Shortall, saw his debut album Bad With Names nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2024 and win Album of the Year at the Scottish Jazz Awards. In 2025, he was named Artist of the Year at the Jazz FM Awards by public vote and received the UK Independent Breakthrough award at the AIM Awards. Over the past few years, corto.alto has performed at more than 120 shows, including appearances on Glastonbury’s West Holts stage, headlining the main stage at We Out Here festival, and playing key sets at Latitude, North Sea, Montreux, and Cross The Tracks festivals. His most recent sold-out UK tour concluded at Glasgow's legendary Barrowland Ballroom.
