Since from the beginning of her solo career in 2010, Jo Quail has become an internationally acclaimed composer and cello virtuoso whose music bridges the worlds of classical, experimental, metal, electronic, and ambient sound. From early on, Quail pushed the boundaries of traditional cello performance — composing her own works and developing her distinctive use of innovative looping, which has since become her signature technique.
Over the course of her career, Quail has released six studio albums, including the breakthrough Exsolve (2018) and the critically acclaimed The Cartographer (2022). These works established her as a leading figure at the intersection of modern classical and heavy music. Her latest release, Notan, continues her uncompromising exploration of sound and dynamics, blending profound emotional depth with technical virtuosity.
Quail is known as a captivating live performer who moves effortlessly between solo performances and collaborations with bands, choirs, and orchestras. Her concerts transport audiences to previously uncharted sonic territories — evoking powerful emotions and seamlessly merging diverse musical worlds. Jo Quail last performed in Finland in the spring of 2025, when she supported God Is An Astronaut.
