Tiisu is making a comeback this year with fresh music and live shows. Their brand new single Vaikee voittaa (jollei viitsi koittaa) offers a taste of their upcoming album, currently in the works. Known for their high-energy and captivating performances, Tiisu has gathered a loyal fanbase over the years.
Tiisu first rose to public attention in 2015 with their debut album Elämän koulu, which was described as a “crazy carnival” – Finnish rock played with wild eyes and an open heart. The album was named YleX’s Album of the Week, cementing Tiisu as one of the most promising names in the new wave of Finnish rock. Their second album, Tänne ei jää kukaan, released in 2017, took on a darker and more serious tone, and was once again recognized as YleX’s Album of the Week. After that, the band took a break.
In the wake of the pandemic, they returned in 2022 with their third album III, which showcased notable musical evolution and received excellent reviews. Tiisu is currently working on their fourth album, which tackles themes such as the climate crisis, societal fragmentation, the tensions of friendship, and the absurd core of human existence.
Tiisu began in the early 2010s at Sibelius High School in Helsinki. Singer-songwriter Henrik Illikainen moved from Somero to the capital with a dream of starting a band. He was joined by bassist Väinö Karjalainen, drummer Riku Sonkkanen, guitarist Petteri Pulkkinen, and keyboardist Antti Vuorenmaa.“Tiisu was born – not with logic, but with emotion. The band was built like Frankenstein’s monster: from parts that don’t belong together, but come alive when struck by lightning.”
