Founded in California in 1991 by singer-songwriter John Darnielle, The Mountain Goats have built a remarkable career in melodic indie music. Their sound blends a strong folk influence with rich instrumental arrangements, and in their early years, the band became known for its distinctive lo-fi releases. The Mountain Goats’ 23rd studio album Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan was released on November 7 via Darnielle’s own label Cadmean Dawn. The album earned widespread critical acclaim — including glowing reviews from The Guardian. The record features guest appearances by Tommy Stinson of The Replacements and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the acclaimed actor, composer, director, and playwright.
