Blending melodic doom and death metal, Swallow the Sun is one of Finland’s true metal treasures. Founded in 2000 by guitarist and songwriter Juha Raivio, the band is internationally recognized as one of the leading names in its genre.
Swallow The Sun’s latest album Shining was awarded Metal Album of the Year at the Emma Gala in spring 2025. Juha Raivio commented on the release: “It feels almost surreal to release one of our best and boldest albums 24 years after the band’s formation. Like an icicle through a sleeping heart. A sunrise in the night sky. Horns and embers. Shining dark.”
Recent years have been busy for Swallow The Sun. In 2025, the band toured extensively across North America, Central Europe, and the British Isles. Following their summer festival appearances, they performed an acclaimed 25th anniversary show at the Helsinki Festival’s Huvila tent. In early 2026, alongside a domestic tour, the band also played shows in countries including China, Japan, and Australia.
