A multifaceted sound artist and pioneer of electronic music, Suzanne Ciani began her career in music and music technology in the late 1960s at the University of California and Stanford, where she met Don Buchla, the inventor of the Buchla synthesizer. This encounter sparked Ciani’s lifelong exploration of Buchla synthesizers.
Ciani has had a long and celebrated career as a sound designer for commercials and video games, as well as a composer for film music. Over the course of her illustrious career, she has released more than 20 studio albums and been nominated for a Grammy five times. A documentary about her, A Life in Waves, premiered at the SXSW festival in 2017. In recent years, this multitalented artist has returned to her beloved Buchla synthesizer.
