Sasha Velour has established herself as one of the most significant drag artists of our time. The beloved American drag performer, author, producer, visual artist, and activist is renowned for her gender-bending artistry and spectacular stage productions.
She rose to international fame after winning season nine of the Emmy Award–winning series RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2017. Following her victory, Velour has toured the world with two widely acclaimed one-queen stage shows, Smoke & Mirrors (2019–2022) and The Big Reveal (2023–2025), presented in more than 60 prestigious theaters worldwide.
Velour is also the creator and host of the legendary New York–based performance series NightGowns, widely regarded as one of the most influential drag showcases of all time. Her namesake production company, House of Velour, has produced live performances and video works for organizations such as HBO, New York Fashion Week, MAC Cosmetics, and Absolut Vodka, and has been described as a pioneering force in reimagining the business of drag.
In addition to her performances and productions, Velour published the bestselling book The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag in 2023, in which she explores the often-overlooked history of drag while weaving it together with her own personal experiences. She is also an active visual artist and illustrator, having released several comic works, designed a Google Doodle honoring Marlene Dietrich, and created her award-winning self-portrait for the cover of The New Yorker in 2023.
