Born in Ontario to an Estonian family, Kara-Lis Coverdale has in recent years emerged as one of the most compelling figures in experimental electronic and contemporary music. Trained in classical piano and having worked as an organist from a young age, her work draws from electronic and electroacoustic traditions as well as from sacred music and Estonian choral and folk traditions.
Coverdale has composed music for films, dance and theatre productions, installations, and even therapeutic treatments. This year, after several years of silence, she released three critically acclaimed studio albums: Changes in Air, From Where You Came, and A Series Of Actions In A Sphere Of Forever.
