American filmmaker, composer, and musician,  John Carpenter is best known for his work in the horror, science fiction, and action genres. A pioneer of the horror genre, Carpenter directed iconic films like Halloween, The Thing, and Escape from New York, which have become staples of cinema. In addition to his directing, he is renowned for composing the scores to many of his films, particularly the haunting, minimalist synth-driven music of Halloween, which has had a lasting impact on film scoring.
