With three albums and numerous live performances, Bad Sauna has emerged as one of Finland’s most intriguing distortion-driven indie rock bands. The group made a thunderous entrance onto the scene with their 2020 debut album, Olen rikas, sillä minulla on teidät. The album's singles, such as Niin kuin se ennen oli and Tehdään jotain tyhmää, gained significant attention, earning the band the Newcomer of the Year award at the Indie Awards.
Their sophomore album, Potslojo, introduced a heavier, more grandiose guitar sound. Sold-out club shows and major festival performances at Provinssi and Sideways expanded their fan base. The album’s opening track, Väsy, landed on Spotify’s global Fresh Finds Rock playlist—a remarkable feat for a Finnish-language rock band and proof that Bad Sauna's music is very much in tune with the times. The album’s biggest hit, Kun nään koiran, mun sydän sulaa, further solidified their popularity.
Bad Sauna consists of four close friends: vocalist-guitarist Felix Lybeck, drummer Aliisa Keränen, bassist Santeri Hytönen, and guitarist Sakari Kumpula. To its members, the band is like a family, a sentiment that resonates deeply in their music. Their third album, Kerro sille miltä susta tuntuu, was released on November 15, 2024.
On this album, the band paints a picture of a world where expressing emotions is the key to deeper understanding—a shared survival story of individuals, friends, and the band itself, navigating from the depths of the mind to a brighter everyday life. Musically, Bad Sauna remains unapologetically authentic: strong guitar riffs, melancholic moods, and moments of peace, infused with just the right amount of hopeful naivety. The band never falls into unnecessary gimmicks or abrupt clichés—emotion is always at the forefront, and that is precisely what makes their music so compelling.
