Alter Annala (Marko Annala) is a Finnish musician and author, best known as the founder, lead vocalist, and songwriter of Mokoma. Over a career spanning decades, he has become a central figure in the Finnish metal scene. His artistic imprint has also had a wide impact on Finnish music through collaborations and songs written for other artists.
Alongside his music career, Annala has built a significant reputation as a novelist. His novels Värityskirja (2017), Paasto(2018), Kuutio (2020), and Ylva (2025) explore life and the contradictions of human nature in a deeply affecting way. The works have received broad critical acclaim and several awards.
Now, Annala opens a new chapter in his career under the moniker Alter Annala. His electronic-leaning solo project allows him to step beyond his previous roles and explore music more freely through a new kind of artistic expression.
